Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) for Flexible Transparent Conductive Coatings

Using CNT films as conductive materials seems to be a simple idea. However, the overall electrical properties depend intricately on various parameters, such as average tube length and diameter, diameter, deposition method, concentration of CNTs, and incidental doping in the environment. For conductive films, long and relatively large diameter CNTs are required, which can minimize the role of CNT junctions in transport and the band gap of CNTs. Ideally, the deposition method should be able to assemble uniform films on any substrate with high throughput, and with precise control of D, several solution deposition methods and transfer printing techniques have demonstrated attractive capabilities for forming large-area transparent conductive SWCNT films on various substrates.

Combining conductive CNT films with semiconducting CNT films can realize flexible transparent transistors in which all current-carrying layers use CNTs.
